Here a Chick there a Chick

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Spring is coming, ladies! We are anxiously awaiting blossoms and blooms, but often find it’s still a little too chilly here in Kansas. I couldn’t wait, so I made my own garden in the dining room.
I got to sort through some of my favorite linens last week to help my sister, Tamara decorate a window for her crochet guild. I couldn’t pass up the chance to pull a few favorites and decorate for Easter.
I think this is the perfect Easter Basket, I love vintage purses and am always looking for a way to give them a new use, a new life.
This is one of my favorites, it stands up so nicely and holds books, magazines and anything I might want to tote about. Don’t despair if Spring seems to be taking too long, drag some sunshine out from an old box and make your own blossom!

YUM. While I was at the quilt shop, I found wonderful fabrics from Lakehouse for a project I have been excited to start. I went home and made a market shopping bag with lots of room and tons of pockets. I love this color combination. The wheels are turning!

Retail Therapy

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I stopped in my neighborhood quilt shop, The Picket Fence Quilt Company. I was ready for some retail therapy. There was a class in session. Karen Morrison was teaching the class “A Square in a Square”. The gals were so sweet to let me show and share and take pictures.
This is the owner of the shop, Lisa Johnson with staff member Alisa Gast. This is Deb Johnson from Wichita, KS, local up and comming pattern designer. She is an amazing teacher.
These are the blocks Karen made, I’ll be learning this technique.
Lookie, my Britches and Bloomers and the Babydoll Top on display! The quilt was made by Late Bloomer Quilts in Sweetest Gifts fabrics!

Favorite Spot

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

All of us at JCD love antiques, garage sales, thrifting and fun boutiques. This is one of my personal favorites.
Juliana Daniel in Wichita has been a favorite spot for many years, but her shop recently moved.
On a business outing last week, Bev, Steph and I managed to fit in some shopping. We had to see her new location.
It is roomier, there is a wonderful, spacious upstairs that looks out over the street to the Crown Uptown Theatre.
Inside she has wonderful vinettes that inspire me and I had to take pictures to share with you. We loved this room of linens. The stacked pillows with ticking are delicious. We could have stayed all day, but life was waiting back at home!

New year, new beginings..

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Steph made this necklace from my fabric and recycled jewelry pieces. What fun it is to have such creative people like Steph to work with.

Stephanie made Valentine’s gifts for us.

This handmade Valentine collage sits in my sewing room year round!

These are Claudia’s old Valentine Candy boxes

January was a bitter sweet month for Jackie Clark Designs. This month of love and hearts has special meaning to us.
I have been slowly healing from a painful, inflamed shoulder to fingertip problem. I have been going through lack of sewing withdrawl. It is like a MONTH without sunshine for me.
My sister, Tamara plus our team completed our newest project book, “A Mother’s Love”. It has a wonderful baby quilt pattern plus nursery projects.
My daddy had open heart surgery, of which he was given only 20% chance of survival. Through prayers, tears and fears, he made it. He is doing very well.
Hearts again, our Claudia lost her step-father, Bob, to a heart attack. He was an 83 year-old believer. We know where he is.
Steph lost her Grandma Clara, 92 years happy.
Bev’s father fell on the ice and dislocated his shoulder, he will require surgery.
Through all of this we have been each-other’s support and prayer team. We have been blessed that we have been able to take time for our families and ourselves during these times. We are blessed by all the hearts and hands of our sewing and crafting friends all over the world. Tell or show someone you love them in the month of LOVE.
